Report: EA loses COO to Zynga (Xbox 360)

EA's John Schappert has tendered his resignation as COO to reportedly pursue a management position with social gaming mega-company Zynga.

According to documents filed by EA to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Schappert  ended his 22-month long run with EA this Tuesday. Sources at Reuters allege Schappert made the decision to leave after the insanely popular developer of FarmVille and Mafia Wars fame offered him a lucrative and influential role within the fast growing company...

5 reasons to hate Assassin’s Creed (Assassin's Creed II)

A conveniently skewed view of history. Corrupt religious leaders. Serious men in silly white dresses who leap flamboyantly about with knives strapped to their wrists.  Jade Raymond. What do these things have in common? They're hallmarks of Assassin's Creed, which has quickly grown from a single, divisive game to one of the most popular franchises of the current console generation. And if you've been paying attention, you know that makes it a perfect target for our continuing Week of Hate coverage. Specifically the part of that coverage in which we take a moment each day to nitpick a beloved series to death...

Hulu Plus coming to Xbox 360 this Friday (Xbox 360)

An apparent scan from the June issue of Official Xbox Magazine pegs Hulu Plus with an April 29 launch date for the Xbox 360. Neither OXM nor Microsoft has confirmed the date, but the Friday release appears so far to be legitimate (as professional Magic 8-Balls, our opinion is that “all signs point to yes”). We've contacted Microsoft, and we'll update you if we receive confirmation...

8 hated box art cliches (PlayStation 3)

It’s only a matter of time before a major art museum hosts an exhibit for videogame box art. Imagine… Your favorite titles blown up to impossible sizes. Ripped out of context to be ogled and discussed by art critics. People milling about stark white rooms breathing hushed commentary of how they “get it.” Curating such a show would be a nightmare – even with covers stretching into the millions and a history that dates back more than thirty years, moments of visual genius are few and far between.

This article isn’t about those moments. This article is all about the “between” – the endless menagerie of visual crutches used in box art stretching as far as the eye can see. Join us, then, as we take you on a journey through our most hated box art cliches...

Portal 2 (Review)

Portal 2 isn't everything I wanted it to be, but how could it have been? In 2007, Portal jumped out from behind the release of Half-Life 2: Episode 2, catching us unawares and stupefying our faces off, and we've spent the past four years canonizing it with jokes about Companion Cubes, cake lies, and huge successes. Without the element of surprise, and with an impossible tower of expectations looming over it, the best developer Valve could have hoped to do is make Portal 2 the next best thing. It succeeded...

New Max Payne 3 screenshots feature Payne before and after hair (Max Payne 3)

I love Max Payne (platonically), but I'm still not sure I love his new, old bald dude persona. Today, Rockstar released a new batch of screens from EDGE's cover story, and while bald Payne makes several appearances, so does a much more Payne-like Payne. Perhaps the game includes flashbacks, or just a significant amount of time progression. Or maybe bald Payne is his long-lost brother (one can hope). I should probably just read the EDGE feature, but until then, screenshots...
